About

Where Literature Meets Connection

Spirit of Reading was created from a simple belief:

When someone is read to with care, attention, and skill, something important happens.

A story can awaken memory.
A poem can spark conversation.
A news article can restore a sense of participation in the wider world.

In senior communities especially, these moments matter.

Meet the Founder

Spirit of Reading is led by Stephanie Halldorson, PhD (English), MA, BA (Honours, Specialist), AOS (Acting), TESL.

Stephanie is an award-winning writer who holds a doctorate in English Literature from the University of Toronto and has taught at the university level. She is also a professionally trained actor, having studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and performed in New York and London.

She has worked with a wide spectrum of learners and listeners, including those with ADHD, dementia, and vision loss.

Her rare combination of deep literary scholarship and expressive performance training allows her to bring texts to life while guiding thoughtful, inclusive conversation.

Stephanie’s work bridges intellect and warmth. Sessions are structured, but never rigid. Professional, yet deeply human.
